Stratech Scientific – 30 Years Assisting the Life Science Community

This year Stratech celebrates its 30th anniversary. Originally incorporated in North London in 1983 by the now Managing Director Sue Hallett and Trevor Schofield (retired), Stratech has become a leading supplier of
speciality products for life science research laboratories. Since then, driven by an experienced, forward looking, board of directors consisting of Business Development Director Sharon Young, Distribution Director Ian Nicholls and Financial Director Peter Dixon, Stratech has refined its focus on speciality products, continuously evolving to fit customers’ demands. With growing success over the years came the demand for larger premises, which has resulted in a number of relocations initially from North London to Luton, then Soham and finally in 2006 to the current offices in Newmarket. The company continued growth over the years has been speared by the selection of an excellent product range obtained from numerous, innovative companies around the globe.

The suppliers originate both from traditional, renowned centres, such as those in North America, and Europe but now increasingly including new emerging companies from Asia. The growth in range caters for a multitude different laboratory procedures in the life science; this industry range from the ever growing use of antibodies and proteins to molecular biological reagents, along with an extensive range of biochemicals amongst other product types. In all cases a rigorous selection process is focused on current customer demand.

However, having the right products is only part of Stratech’s success. The provision of excellent customer and technical support is paramount. This is available through a highly trained and experienced customer service and technical support team, together ensuring outstanding customer satisfaction amongst to research laboratories throughout the UK and increasingly in Europe.

Sue Hallett, summarised the last 30 years by saying, “When we started the company the main aim was to assist researchers find niche products. At the time British scientists needed to import products developed in the USA. Our emphasis was and is on product innovation, reliability and speed of delivery, which has enhanced our reputation over the years.

Over the years we have seen many novel products become commodities, whilst the demands of the Biotech and Biopharma industries have led to a continuous development of new research tools emerging in key research areas such as Oncology, Neuroscience and Stem Cell Research. This has resulted in the need for an evolving product demand, which we have met through an increased range of product and advances in our capabilities to deal with differing product types.

Our customer base has also grown in diversity including researchers at all stages of their careers from those starting out, to Nobel Prize winners from world leading laboratories. Growing as a company has also give us the knowledge and expertise to remain at the forefront, providing customers with the products they require in a timely and efficient manner. Customer care then and now remains key in all aspects of our business”.
