The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. Adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, the 17 goals are interconnected and address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice.

  1. No Poverty: End poverty in all its forms everywhere. This goal aims to eradicate extreme poverty and reduce the proportion of people living in poverty by at least half.
  2. Zero Hunger: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. This goal focuses on ensuring access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food for all.
  3. Good Health and Well-being: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. This goal aims to reduce maternal and child mortality, combat communicable diseases, and achieve universal health coverage.
  4. Quality Education: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. This goal emphasizes access to education and the importance of learning outcomes.
  5. Gender Equality: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. This goal focuses on ending discrimination, violence, and harmful practices against women and girls.
  6. Clean Water and Sanitation: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. This goal aims to provide universal access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation.
  7. Affordable and Clean Energy: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. This goal promotes renewable energy and energy efficiency.
  8. Decent Work and Economic Growth: Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all. This goal focuses on job creation, labor rights, and economic productivity.
  9. Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation. This goal aims to enhance technological progress and infrastructure development.
  10. Reduced Inequalities: Reduce inequality within and among countries. This goal focuses on social, economic, and political inclusion and the reduction of disparities.
  11. Sustainable Cities and Communities: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. This goal emphasizes urban planning, transportation, and disaster resilience.
  12. Responsible Consumption and Production: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. This goal promotes resource efficiency, waste reduction, and sustainable practices.
  13. Climate Action: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. This goal focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building resilience to climate-related hazards.
  14. Life Below Water: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development. This goal aims to protect marine ecosystems and reduce pollution.
  15. Life on Land: Protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. This goal focuses on land conservation and biodiversity.
  16. Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels. This goal emphasizes governance, rule of law, and reducing violence.
  17. Partnerships for the Goals: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development. This goal focuses on international cooperation, capacity-building, and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
