Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT)

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) occurs when largely adherent and polarized epithelial cells acquire the phenotype of more mobile mesenchymal cells. EMT not only facilitates morphogenesis during embryonic development but also promotes invasion and metastasis in tumors. Pathological EMT is associated with E-cadherin repression, which contributes to tumor progression. Various oncogenic pathways (involving, for example, TGF-beta, Wnt/beta-catenin, integrins, and Notch) induce EMT via cytoskeletal rearrangement and activation of E-cadherin repressors, including SNAI1, SNAI2, SIP1, ZEB1, and TCF3.

E-Cadherin antibody [GT477] (GTX629691)    
E-cadherin, a calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion molecule, is a key component of the adherens junctions that are integral in cell adhesion and in maintaining the epithelial cell phenotype. Tumor progression is often associated with the loss of E-cadherin function and the transition to a more motile and invasive phenotype.
N-Cadherin antibody (GTX127345)  
Cells that undergo EMT commonly switch from expressing E-cadherin to N-cadherin. The upregulation of N-cadherin expression promotes cell motility and invasion, which is linked to tumor metastasis.
alpha Smooth Muscle Actin antibody (GTX100034)  
Alpha-smooth muscle actin (alpha-SMA) is the actin isoform that is predominately expressed within vascular smooth muscle cells and plays an important role in fibrogenesis. Alpha-SMA is also considered to be a mesenchymal marker during EMT.
Vimentin antibody (GTX100619)  
Vimentin is an intermediate filament protein that is characteristically upregulated in cells undergoing EMT. During EMT, cytoskeletal intermediate filaments undergo a significant compositional change from keratin (epithelial cells) to vimentin (mesenchymal cells).
ZEB1 antibody [N2C1], Internal (GTX105278)  
ZEB1 is a zinc finger- and homeodomain-containing transcription factor that binds to the E-box of target promoters. Its binding to the CDH1 promoter leads to the gene’s repression and promotion of tumor invasion and metastasis by inducing EMT.
SNAI1 antibody (GTX125918)
SNAI1 is a zinc finger transcriptional repressor controlling EMT during embryogenesis and tumor progression. It interacts with several corepressors to repress specific target genes, such as the CDH1 (E-cadherin) gene.
