Classical Media

Classical cell culture media is designed to support the growth of a variety of microorganisms and cells. Our broad selection of growth media include products that are able to add nutrients, such as amino acids and nitrogen. We offer selective media used for growth of only select microorganisms and finally we offer differential media used distinguish one microorganism type from another growing on the same media.

Cell Culture Reagents

Growth media is used either for cell culture or microbiological culture. These require nutrients, supplements, buffers and other reagents specific to the product being grown to maximize results and consistency. There are two major types of growth media: those used for cell culture, which use specific cell types derived from plants or animals, and microbiological culture, which are used for growing microorganisms, such as bacteria or yeast.

The most common growth media for microorganisms are nutrient broths and agar plates; specialised media are sometimes required for microorganism and cell culture growth. Some organisms, termed fastidious organisms, require specialised environments due to complex nutritional requirements. Viruses, for example, are obligated intracellular parasites and require a growth medium composed of living cells.

High Quality Water

Mediatech produces Water for Injection (WFI) quality water, meeting the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) testing requirements for WFI.

WFI-Quality Water Applications: Raw material for manufacturing, cell culture, process validation, device processing, purification buffers, or chromatography buffers. Molecular grade water is ideal for the preparation of reagents, rinsing glassware and plasticware, and other molecular biology applications where RNase, DNase, and Protease-free water is required. No toxic agents, including DEPC, are used in the preparation of Mediatech’s molecular grade water, eliminating possible interference with enzymatic reactions. Perfect for critical molecular biology processes where low endotoxin and the absence of nuclease and protease activity is a must, including: buffer preparation, DNA/RNA purification, DNA sequencing and libraries, recombinant DNA, cloning, gene mapping, Northern blots, Southern blots, and Western Blots, etc.

Insect Media and Reagents

Insect cell culture has become an increasingly important tool in biotechnology for the production of biologicals. The inherent growth characteristics of the insect cells make them ideal candidates for Baculovirus Expression Vector Systems (BEVS) for the production of recombinant genes because they provide advantages over both bacterial and mammalian cultures, due to their fast doubling times and ability to grow in a suspension.

Microbiology and Molecular Biology

The cellgro molecular biology product line ranges from microbiological media and components to molecular reagents and buffers. With a wide range of antibiotics to choose from these products allow you to select your growth as well as ensure their viability and proliferation. Many of the antibiotics offered are members of the aminoglycoside family whose mechanism of action works by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit.

Serum, the portion of plasma remaining after coagulation of blood, is commonly used as a supplement to cell culture media. It provides a broad spectrum of macromolecules, carrier proteins for lipid substances and trace elements, attachment and spreading factors, low molecular weight nutrients, and hormones and growth factors. The most widely used animal serum supplement is fetal bovine serum (FBS).

Serum-Free Media and Supplements

We have developed, and will continue to expand a portfolio of serum-free, low-protein, protein free and other specialty media and supplements to meet the exacting needs of the customer.
