Founded 2012 and based in Monheim, Germany, Cube Biotech specialises in membrane protein technologies. They develop solutions for expression, purification, stabilisation and structural characterisation of membrane proteins—targets like GPCRs and transporters which are hard to handle.
Their key platform is NativeMP™, a copolymer-based system that preserves proteins in their native-lipid environment to enable more reliable functional assays, structural biology and drug discovery workflows.
They provide both products (resins, stabilisation kits, purification tools) and services (protein production, assay / structural work) to academic, biotech and pharma clients.
Membrane proteins require special attention. The removal of the cell membrane is usually required for many protein assays. Over time scientists have developed multiple approaches to solubilize & stabilize membrane proteins outside the membrane. Cube Biotech offers Ultrapure detergents, MSP Nanodiscs and Copolymer Nanodiscs.
Affinity tags combined with a matching purification resin offer a great way to purify expressed proteins to homogeneity. Cube Biotech provides a broad range of resins, tags and magbeads for you to choose from. Additionally, we offer activated resins and MagBeads for coupling to amino, thiol, and carboxy groups directly.
Membrane proteins, in particular GPCRs, are the most pharmaceutically relevant protein class. At the same time, it is very difficult to obtain them in pure, active form. Cube Biotech, however, can offer GPCRs solubilized in detergent, or reconstituted into nanodiscs for stabilisation.
Phosphorylation analysis provides many highly interesting insights into the cell’s inner workings under different conditions. By today’s estimations, 30% of all proteins get phosphorylated to some extent. Therefore, an effective and affordable enrichment method for these phosphopeptides is key for scientific advances in this field. Cube Biotech provides multiple different IMAC agarose resins and magnetic beads for this purpose. They are all suited for phosphopeptide enrichment (PE) for mass spectrometry as well as phosphopeptide purification.
As an alternative to protein expression in living cells, cell-free lysates can be used to obtain recombinant proteins. They allow very precise management and are easy to set up and optimize. The open system also facilitates a broad bandwidth of applications. Please note that the E.coli T7 lysates require additional components (e.g. amino acids, nucleic acids, dialysis devices) that are currently not provided by Cube Biotech. Please refer to the protocols for more details.
