Description: The K-sam (KATO-III cells-derived stomach cancer amplified gene) gene was originally cloned from KATO-III cells, human gastric cancer, as an amplified gene. And it is identical to FGFR2 (fibroblast growth factor receptor 2), bek (bacteria-expressed kinase) or KGFR (Keratinocyte growth factor receptor) gene. K-sam generates several variant transcripts by alternative splicing, including those coding for soluble forms of the receptors. Some of these variations are identified and have been studied regarding their functions. It is well known that the gene amplifies in the patients with stomach cancer, especially scirrhous gastric cancer.
