Description: Source : Pichia Pastoris. Recombinant OPG produced in yeast contains 2x412 amino acid residues, including 180 residues from mature OPG (a.a 22-201) & 232 residues from the Fc protein of human IgG1, & has a calculated molecular mass of 109.6kDa. Osteoprotegerin acts as decoy receptor for rankl & thereby neutralizes its function in osteoclastogenesis. OPG inhibits the activation of osteoclasts & promotes osteoclast apoptosis in vitro. Bone homeostasis seems to depend on the local rankl/opg ratio. Osteoprotegerin may also play a role in preventing arterial calcification. May act as decoy receptor for trail & protect against apoptosis. Trail binding blocks the inhibition of osteoclastogenesis.

It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized Osteoprotegerin in sterile 18MO-cm H2O not less than 100µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions. The ED50 as determined by neutralizing the stimulation of U937 cells is less than 10 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of > 100,000IU/mg in the presence of 10ng/ml soluble human RANKL (sRANKL).
