Description

Description: CD2 is a 45-59 kD type I transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the Ig superfamily. CD2 is the receptor for LFA-3/CD58. CD2 serves as an adhesion receptor that binds to CD58; generating the activation of CD2-positive T cells and NK cells and in the regulation of their cytolytic activities. CD2 is a specific marker for T cells and NK cells. Hence, it can be used in immunohistochemistry to identify the occurrence of these cells in tissue sections. The vast majority of T cell lymphomas and leukemias express CD2 which makes it possible to distinguish these conditions from B-cell lymphomas.
