Description: CXCL5 is an inflammatory chemokine that belongs to the CXC chemokine family1 that has a role in the development of cardiovascular diseases.2 CXCL5 is expressed by fibroblasts, is induced by bacterial lipopolysaccharides, and is chemotactic for neutrophils.1 It is expressed by epithelial cells within colorectal mucosa is a chemoattractant for neutrophils and has been implicated in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.3 CXCL5 is important in growth and development of colorectal cancer, implicating a future role in both cancer therapy and diagnosis.4
