Description

Description: CD11c antigen is expressed mainly on monocytes and in low density on granulocytes and NK cells. High levels of CD11c are expressed on tissue macrophages. It is also found on lymphoid cell lines including hairy cell leukemia. CD11c (integrin aX subunit) combines with CD18 (integrin b2 subunit) to form the integrin protein 150,95 (aXb2, CD11c/CD18). CD11c/CD18 has been reported to play an important role in cytotoxic T cell killing, and in neutrophil and monocyte adhesion to endothelium. Although its ligands in these two cases have not been identified. CD11c/CD18 is not expressed on leukocytes of patients with leukocyte adhesion deficiency. leukocyte adhesion deficiency results from defects in the CD18 gene, leading to diminished expression of all CD18-containing integrins. CD11c antibodies bind multiple ligands including the complement fragment iC3b, CD54 (ICAM-1), fibrinogen and bacterial lippolysaccharide.
