Description

Description: The protein encoded by this gene is a cytokine that controls the production, differentiation, and function of granulocytes and macrophages. The active form of the protein is found extracellularly as a homodimer. This gene has been localized to a cluster of related genes at chromosome region 5q31, which is known to be associated with interstitial deletions in the 5q- syndrome and acute myelogenous leukemia. Other genes in the cluster include those encoding interleukins 4, 5, and 13. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Short Description

GM-CSF, a colony stimulating factor also known as CSF2, mediates the proliferation, differentiation, and functions of hematopoietic precursor cells. This bioactive recombinant human GM-CSF is a 14.6 kDa globular protein formed by a 128 a.a. polypeptide with two intramolecular disulfide bonds and two potential N-linked glycosylation sites.

Storage Note

Store at 4C or below. After reconstitution, keep as concentrated solution. Aliquot and store at -20C or below. Avoid multiple freeze-thaw cycles. For long-term storage after reconstitution, aliquot and store at -70C or below. Do not vortex.
