Description

Description: Collagens are highly conserved throughout evolution and are characterised by an uninterrupted "Glycine X Y" triplet repeat that is a necessary part of the triple helical structure. Type I collagen (95 kDa) is found in bone, cornea, skin and tendon. Mutations in the encoding gene are associated with osteogenesis imperfecta, Ehlers Danlos syndrome, and idiopathic osteoporosis. Reciprocal translocations between chromosomes 17 and 22, where this gene and the gene for Platelet-derived growth factor beta are located, are associated with a particular type of skin tumor called dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, resulting from unregulated expression of the growth factor.

Short Description

Collagen I antibody (Collagen 1 antibody) detects type I collagen, a fibrillar type collagen found in almost all connective tissues. The main isoform of type I collagen is a heterotrimer of two α1 and one α2 chains subject to significant posttranslational modification and crosslinking. Mutations in type I collagen are found in osteogenesis imperfecta and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, but this collagen is also linked to other connective tissue disease as well as disorders associated with aging.

Storage Note

Store as concentrated solution. Centrifuge briefly prior to opening vial. For short-term storage (1-2 weeks), store at 4C. For long-term storage, aliquot and store at -20C or below. Avoid multiple freeze-thaw cycles.
