Description

Description: The protein encoded by this gene is a Krebs tricarboxylic acid cycle enzyme that catalyzes the synthesis of citrate from oxaloacetate and acetyl coenzyme A. The enzyme is found in nearly all cells capable of oxidative metablism. This protein is nuclear encoded and transported into the mitochondrial matrix, where the mature form is found. Short Description

Citrate synthase antibody detects citrate synthase, the 52 kDa enzyme that catalyzes the first reaction in the citric acid cycle (Krebs cycle) to convert acetyl-CoA and oxaloacetate to citrate and CoA-SH. Citrate synthase exists within the mitochondrial matrix in eukaryotic cells and is used commonly as a marker of intact mitochondria.
