Description

Description: This gene encodes a member of the peptidase C1 family and preproprotein that is proteolytically processed to generate multiple protein products. These products include the cathepsin B light and heavy chains, which can dimerize to generate the double chain form of the enzyme. This enzyme is a lysosomal cysteine protease with both endopeptidase and exopeptidase activity that may play a role in protein turnover. Homozygous knockout mice for this gene exhibit reduced pancreatic damage following induced pancreatitis and reduced hepatocyte apoptosis in a model of liver injury. Pseudogenes of this gene have been identified in the genome. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2015]

For In vitro laboratory use only. Not for any clinical, therapeutic, or diagnostic use in humans or animals. Not for animal or human consumption.

Application Notes

Specific activity is > 2000 pmol/min/µg and is defined as the amount of enzyme that hydrolyze 1pmole of Z-Arg-Arg-AMC to Z-Arg-Arg and AMC per minute at pH 6.0 at 37C.

Storage Note

Store as concentrated solution. Centrifuge briefly prior to opening vial. For short-term storage (1-2 weeks), store at 4C. For long-term storage, aliquot and store at -20C or below. Avoid multiple freeze-thaw cycles.
