Description

Description: This gene encodes a nuclear receptor co-repressor that mediates transcriptional silencing of certain target genes. The encoded protein is a member of a family of thyroid hormone- and retinoic acid receptor-associated co-repressors. This protein acts as part of a multisubunit complex which includes histone deacetylases to modify chromatin structure that prevents basal transcriptional activity of target genes. Aberrant expression of this gene is associated with certain cancers. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.[provided by RefSeq, Apr 2011]

Application Notes

For ChIP: Use 3µl for 10^6 cells. For IHC-Fr: Use at a dilution of 1:50. Immunohistochemical staining of SMRT in HeLa cells with this antibody results in nuclear staining. For WB: Use at a dilution of 1:250. Detects a band of approximately 220-250 kDa (predicted molecular weight: 274 kDa). Optimal dilutions/concentration should be determined by the researcher.

Storage Note

Store as concentrated solution. Centrifuge briefly prior to opening vial. For short-term storage (1-2 weeks), store at 4C. For long-term storage, aliquot and store at -20C or below. Avoid multiple freeze-thaw cycles.
