NF-M antibody detects NF-M protein at cytoskeleton by immunofluorescent analysis. Sample: Cultured rat E18 primary cortical neuron, DIV 8. Cells were fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde at RT for 15 min. Green: NF-M protein stained by NF-M antibody (GTX85461) diluted at 1:250. Red: F-Actin , stained by F-Actin antibody [NH3] (GTX20205) diluted at 1:250. Blue: Fluoroshield with DAPI (GTX30920).

Description: Neurofilaments are type IV intermediate filament heteropolymers composed of light, medium, and heavy chains. Neurofilaments comprise the axoskeleton and functionally maintain neuronal caliber. They may also play a role in intracellular transport to axons and dendrites. This gene encodes the medium neurofilament protein. This protein is commonly used as a biomarker of neuronal damage. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2008]
