Description: This method is based on the ability of plasma antioxidants to reduce ferric iron to ferrous iron, which, reacting with αα-dipiridile, gives rise to a reddish-purple solution. The intensity of colour increases proportionally to the amount of iron reduced by antioxidants present in the sample.This method has a special characteristic; it was engineered to have 2 stages: first stage (first minute) we get the value (CONC 1) given by antioxidants called FAST, which act quickly, such as Vitamin C or Vitamin E. From the second stage we obtain the value (CONC 2) given by antioxidants SLOW, as thiol-SH groups, uric acid or polyphenols.
