Description: Thiols are a qualitatively significant component of antioxidant plasma barrier. Indeed, thiol groups (-SH) of plasma compounds (e.g. proteins, P-SH) are able to oppose the propagation step of radical chain reactions, thanks to their capacity to inactivate alkoxyl radicals and are also able to neutralize the tissue-damaging action of hydroxyl radical (HO•). The -SHp Test is based on the ability of thiol groups of a biological sample, to develop in a buffered solution a photometrically detectable coloured complex when they react with a particular acid which is solubilized as chromogenic mixture.
