Description: NK1.1 is a type II membrane protein that is part of the C-type lectin superfamily. NK1.1 contains a transmembrane domain and a cytoplasmic domain that are characteristic of C-type lectins. The function of NK cells is to mediate cytotoxicity and to secrete cytokines after immune stimulation. NK1.1 has been correlated with lysis of tumor cells In vitro and rejection of bone marrow allografts In vivo. It is also involved in NK cell activation, IFN-γ production, and cytotoxic granule release. NK-1.1 is commonly used as a mouse NK cell marker.
