Description

Description: PCNA, originally known as cyclin, is a 36kD nuclear protein, which plays an integral role in the eukaryotic cell cycle. PCNA is essential for cellular DNA synthesis, and it is also required for the in vitro replication of simian virus 40 (SV 40). PCNA was recently identified as an auxiliary protein of DNA polymerase-d and acts to coordinate leading and lagging strand synthesis at the replication fork. It has been suggested that expression of high levels of PCNA protein correlates with organ metastasis and vascular invasion. Therefore, detection of high levels of PCNA may be an effective prognostic indicator. The mouse anti-PCNA antibody is a useful tool for studying the proliferating cells in normal tissues, and possible aberrant expression in neoplasms.
